What is SS316 reducing tee?

What is SS316?

SS316 is a code that represents A182 F316, A403 WP316 and other derived species that SS316L and SS316H. But UNS designation S31600 only refers to A182 F316 Forged Fittings and A403 WP316 Butt Weld Fittings.

By the way, UNS designation of SS316L is 31603, SS316H is 31609,and SS316N is 31651.

Pipe Tee is one type of pipe fittings. In general, there are two types of SS316 Reducing Tee that Butt Weld Reducing Tee and Socket Weld Reducing Tee.

SS UNS S31600 butt weld fittings are usually used in pipe system with larger diameter, since its dimension range is larger. It has exactly same diameter with the pipeline which matched.

Due to socket welding requires the pipe insert into the socket, so the diameter of socket weld fittings is larger than the pipe itself.

Therefore, even though they are both weld connection pipe fittings, but their materials grade and Technics are different.

While people describe the material as ASTM A403 WP316, then we will know they are requiring butt weld fittings. If ASTM A182 F316,then it is forged steel fittings.
