For barred tee, we should pay attention to these

In the pipeline or in the subsea field,when there is a requirement for pigging,the barred tee will be used. Barred tee is a special kind of tee that need to weld bar plates internally at the branch to avoid the pig from changing direction,or getting stuck.Ensure the smoothness for the pig to run through the main pipe and at the same time, no affecting the flow that was meant to flow through the branch. Should pay more attention on the bar plates as following:

1. The bar plates should be in sufficient quantity,thickness and adequately spaced.
2. The bars’ size in the branch connection should be small enough,not to restrict the flow. But large enough to sustain the pressure of the flow.
3. The bar plates should be ground to suit the branch curvature. Any sharp edges, spatters and burs are required to be removed.
4. The quantity of the bar plates should start with one or two pieces and increase as the ID of the branch increase.
5. The bar plates should be equally spaced.
6. In Shell DEP 31.40.10.13-Gen Figure 4,for larger tee,there should be a bridge plate in the middle to support the bar stiffness when getting hit by the pig.
7. The material of the bar plates commonly is same as the tee material.
8. Bar plate ends must be machined to fit the branch.avoid welding of bars directly on the high-stress concentrated areas of the extrusion neck.
