Manual arc welding (SMAW)
Our regular customer has purchase an order from us,involved in the welding procedure qualification (WPS & PQR).
One of the productions is described as following:
REDUCER,PIPE: ECCENTRIC,36″ X 28″,BEVELLED ENDS, WELDED 100% X-RAY,CARBON STEEL,SCH XS/20 X SCH XS/20,ASTM A234,GR WPB,ASME B16.9,NACE MR0175.
For such large size fittings, our usual welding process is manual arc welding(SMAW).
SMAW refers to manual arc welding, which is an arc welding method that uses manual manipulation of welding rods for welding.
SMAW uses welding rods and weldments as two electrodes, and the metal to be welded is called weldment or base metal. During welding, the weldment is partially melted by the high temperature and blowing force of the arc. An elliptical filled liquid metal pit is formed on the metal to be welded, and this pit is called a molten pool. A weld is formed as the molten pool of the electrode cools and solidifies. The surface of the weld is covered with a layer of slag. The distance from the end of the electrode to the surface of the bath is called the length of the arc. The penetration depth from the surface of the weldment to the bottom of the weld pool is called penetration depth.
