ASME B16.48 Spade – Custom Production for Russian client
In addition to the ASME B16.48 Spectacle Blind FF ASTM A516 Grade 60, Haihao Group is also manufacturing ASME B16.48 spade for our Russian client. The order includes a variety of materials, such as ASTM A516 Grade 60, ASTM A516 Grade 70, ASTM A105, and ASTM A240 Type 316L, with sizes ranging from DN50 to DN500. Each product is tailored to meet the client’s specific requirements, and the stainless steel versions are heat-treated through solution annealing to ensure optimal performance.

ASME B16.48 Spade
Shape and Design
The spade is a solid, flat circular plate, designed for temporary isolation of pipelines. Its shape is simple yet effective: a single solid disc that is inserted between two flanges to completely block the flow of media through the pipeline. The thickness of the spade matches that of the flanges, ensuring a proper seal and reliable isolation.
For ease of operation, the spade is equipped with handles on the edges, allowing workers to insert and remove it quickly and safely without the need for special tools.
Material Selection and Heat Treatment
The materials used for these spades include ASTM A516 Grade 60, ASTM A516 Grade 70, ASTM A105, and ASTM A240 Type 316L, ensuring that the spades meet various application requirements, whether for high-pressure or corrosive environments.
ASTM A516 Grade 60 and Grade 70 are commonly used for pressure vessel and boiler applications due to their excellent weldability and strength.
ASTM A105 is widely used for forged carbon steel flanges and fittings, offering high tensile strength and durability.
ASTM A240 Type 316L is austenitic stainless steel, which provides superior resistance to corrosion, especially in environments exposed to high levels of moisture or aggressive chemicals. For these stainless steel Spades, solution annealing is applied to improve their corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.

ASME B16.48 Spades
Function and Application
The spade is used primarily for temporary isolation of pipelines, offering a fast and efficient way to prevent the flow of media between two flanges. It is commonly used in maintenance procedures, where isolating a section of the pipeline is necessary for repairs, inspections, or cleaning. By inserting the spade between the two flanges, operators can ensure that the media flow is completely blocked, providing safety and ease during operations.
The ASME B16.48 spade manufactured by Haihao Group combines simple yet effective design, durable materials, and reliable performance for temporary isolation in piping systems. The various material options, including ASTM A516 Grade 60, ASTM A516 Grade 70, ASTM A105, and ASTM A240 Type 316L, ensure the spades are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. The handles on the edge of the spade further enhance its usability, making it easy to handle during installation and removal.
