We recently completed a meticulous inspection process for a batch of 42″ ASME B16.9 45° long radius (LR) butt weld elbows made from A234 WPB material, which were ordered by a valued client from Iran. These pipe fittings underwent rigorous quality checks to ensure they meet the highest standards and perform flawlessly in critical applications.

Comprehensive Inspection Procedures

Visual and Dimensional Inspection: Each elbow was thoroughly examined for any surface defects, such as cracks, irregularities, or imperfections. Dimensional measurements, including the elbow’s outer diameter, wall thickness, and angle, were carefully checked to ensure they conformed to ASME B16.9 standards and the client’s precise specifications.

Coating Thickness Measurement: Given that these elbows were coated with a black protective paint to guard against corrosion, we conducted detailed checks to verify the coating thickness. Consistent paint thickness is essential for optimal protection and long-term durability, especially in harsh environments.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of Weld Seams: To guarantee the structural integrity and safety of the welded connections, non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, such as ultrasonic testing or magnetic particle inspection, were employed. These tests help detect any internal or surface defects in the welds without causing damage to the fittings, ensuring that each elbow can withstand high pressure and temperature conditions.
