Petrobras Announces New FPSO Launch Plans

Petrobras has unveiled two major FPSO launch plans aimed at furthering its deepwater oil field development. This announcement came along with the company’s strong Q2 2024 production report.

Strong Production Growth in Q2

In Q2 2024, Petrobras achieved an average daily production of 2,699 million barrels of oil equivalent, a 2.4% increase from the same period in 2023. This growth was driven by accelerated activities in projects such as FPSO Almirante Barroso, P-71, Anna Nery, Anita Garibaldi, and Sepetiba in the Mero field. Additionally, the launch of 12 new wells across eight complementary projects in the Campos Basin and four in the Santos Basin contributed to this increase.

Enhanced Production from FPSO Sepetiba

FPSO Sepetiba, located in the Mero field, saw its oil production rise to 90,000 barrels per day after its second production well began operations in late June.

Upcoming Launch of FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias

The new FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias recently arrived at the Mero field and is set to become the third production system there. It is expected to commence operations later in 2024, with a maximum capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day and 12 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

Early Arrival of FPSO Maria Quitéria

Another new FPSO, Maria Quitéria, left a shipyard in China in May and will soon arrive at the Jubarte field in the Campos pre-salt basin, off the coast of Espírito Santo. The FPSO is expected to begin production in Q4 2024, several months ahead of schedule. It is equipped with advanced decarbonization technologies, including a combined cycle power generation system and a closed flare gas recovery unit, to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The platform has a designed capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day and 5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
